There are many ways that you can reduce your water usage around the home. We have compiled some tips to help you save water.
Outside
• Refill your paddling pool or hub tub less often.
• Don’t wash your whole car, just wash your windscreen.
• If you own a dog, wash them outside instead of in the bath. Excess water can be soaked up through the grass or used to water your plants.
• Use a brush instead of a hose to clean patios, sidewalks and driveways.
Gardening
• Protect your plants from the sun and they will need less water. You can put a sunshade up over them, or throw a light fabric over them, you can move containers into a shadier spot.
• Stop watering your lawn.
• Use a watering can instead of a hose.
• Make an Olla to store water in the soil for the plants to absorb.
• Reuse your bath water for watering.
• Don’t cut your grass too short as shorter grass dries out quicker and will need watering more often.
• Double pot your plants, this will stop water dripping out of the plant pots with a second pot or tray that will catch it.
• Reuse the water from cooking pasta/vegetables to water your plants.
• Water your plants early in the morning or late in the evening when the weather is cooler this will minimise the amount of water that is evaporated.
• Use a nozzle on your garden hose to act as a flow-restrictor and this will significantly reduce the amount of water needed.
